The Plano African America Museum Hires Executive Director
The Plano African American Museum (PAAM) is proud to announce that it has hired Robert L. Haynes to serve as its Executive Director. Mr. Haynes is a highly qualified and proven museum professional who has obtained the respect and admiration of his museum community peers in Plano, Texas, and across the country. His extensive higher educational background includes two masters’ degrees, one of which is a Masters of Arts in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University. The other is a Masters of Arts in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley.
His extensive museum work history includes experience and consulting with a variety of museums, including a plethora of experience with African-American museums. For example, he has served in the past at the Dallas African-American Museum; Greensboro, North Carolina International Civil Right Center and Museum; and the African American Museum and Library at Oakland, California. Mr. Haynes has also played a very instrumental role and garnered a great deal of respect and confidence in the Plano, Texas, museum community for his recent work with the Plano Interurban Railway Museum.
Additionally, Mr. Haynes has worked and trained at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History and worked with Dr. Lonnie Bunch, Director of the new and soon to open National African American Museum on the mall in Washington DC. He worked on the project to open the Old Red Museum in Dallas and the City of Irving history center that interprets the last remaining North Texas independent African American Freedom Settlement at Bear Creek, Texas. Mr. Haynes has also served on the Education Committee for The Dallas Museum of Art.
